A 43-year police veteran, Sgt. Doug Mangum said his goodbyes last week during a retirement ceremony at the Fraternal Order of Police headquarters.

“He’s a testament to law enforcement officers everywhere,” said Sheriff John Rutherford. “We were lucky to have him among us for so long.”

Mangum, 75, has spent more than 15,000 days on the job. Friday was his last day.

“I’ve been doing this for a long time, maybe too long,” he said. “But it was a great ride and I don’t regret a minute of it.”
