Greg Matovina, president of the Northeast Florida Builders Association, was appointed to the Florida Home Builders Association Impact Fee Task Force to help develop solutions to the statewide escalation of impact fees on new homes.

“The task force will work to develop a comprehensive strategy on impact fees,” said Mike Hickman, FHBA president. “It’s clear that we need to employ and coordinate the use of our legal, public relations and political resources to combat this growing problem.”

Matovina says the association is concerned about the negative effect impact fees have on affordable housing.

“These fees unfairly place a burden on new-home buyers, forcing them to fund infrastructure and services that benefit a wider population,” Matovina said. “We believe broad-based taxes should be used to accomplish what impact fees purport to do. We want to maintain a pricing structure that will allow more people - not fewer - realize the dream of homeownership.”

Matovina, a Jacksonville-based builder and president of Matovina & Company, will serve with other FHBA members from local associations across the state.

The Northeast Florida Builders Association provides education, research, legislative representation, media relations, promotions and programs for its 1,500-plus builder and associate members. The Association is celebrating 60 years of service to members and to the community through various charitable efforts.
