Attorney General Charlie Crist said he’s amazed with the growth he sees in Jacksonville.

While in town Thursday, Crist stopped by local lobbyist Marty Fiorentino’s offices.

“I try to come up here about once a month and it’s hard to believe how quickly things are happening here,” he said. “There’s a lot of activity and on top of that, it’s being very well managed. You have to give the mayor credit for that.”

Asked what are the most important issues facing Florida, Crist said everything goes back to effective growth management.

“Everything we do, everything we know is tied back to carefully managed growth,” he said. “We see 1,000 new people everyday and we need to be sure we’re planning for that.”

Other important issues?

“We need to be supportive of our Commander in Chief right now,” said Crist. “This is an election year and President Bush has a hard race ahead of him. He won’t win it without a lot of support and also a lot of money.”

Crist said the importance of re – electing Bush supersedes even his own political future.

A long rumored and possible front – running gubernatorial candidate, Crist said that while he is entertaining a bid, he’d like to see Bush reclaim the presidency first.

“Certainly it’s something I’ve thought about and will continue to think about,” he said. “But again, I plan to stay focused on this job and re – electing our president first.”
