After more than eight months of construction and decorating, Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville unveiled its new third floor Thursday. A total of 30 rooms are now available at the facility.

The space was renovated so more families could be accommodated.

“We’re almost at capacity now,” said Executive Director Joy Hardaker, “but we were told by some of the doctors in the area that more and more pediatric specialist are coming to Jacksonville.

“That puts more of a demand on us and we didn’t ever want to ever turn families away, so the board decided to move forward with the project.”

Hardaker said a family would be staying on the third floor Thursday night.

“We are very pleased to be able to serve the community,” she said. “Today is truly a celebration of all of the hard work and generosity that went into this.”

Largely funded through private donations, the Ronald McDonald House provides various services for families with sick children.
