Renovations at The Carlington on West Adams Street are moving along. The building was recently painted and fitted with new windows. Brick facade restoration will take place later this year. The original terrazzo flooring, a flooring material of marble or stone chips set in mortar and polished when dry, is also being fully refurbished. A tentative 2005 completion date is planned.

As a historical property, Vestcor was required to keep various components of the Carlington intact, including window frames, to qualify for a Historic Trust Fund grant, totaling $3 million.

Upon opening, the Carlington, formerly the Roosevelt Hotel, will house 100 loft apartments with an additional 15,000 square feet devoted to retail space.
