The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department launched Friday its newest marine unit. The christening, performed by Major John Peyton, took place at the Jacksonville Landing’s dock facilities.

The new addition to the JFRD is a 27-foot Silver Ship. It is a state of the art, high–speed, firefighting/rescue boat with the capacity to pump 1,250 gallons of water per minute.

The vessel is one of two identical boats the JFRD as ordered. The second is scheduled to be delivered in May.
