• Mayor John Peyton will unveil a mural at the construction site of the new Main Library Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The project is part of the City’s Art in Public Places program and attendees at the ceremony are being encouraged to stay for the April Downtown Art Walk.

• Congratulations to attorney Angela Vickers. She’ll receive the National Mental Health Association’s highest consumer advocate award for her work with mental illness and the judicial system. Vickers travels to Washington, D.C. in June to accept the award.

• Now that the mayor has decided to postpone Hendricks Avenue improvements until after the Super Bowl, San Marco property owner Jack Davis has asked the City to reconsider the project’s parking layout. Davis previously complained to the mayor the project could cost proprietors $400 a day in walk-up business by eliminating 21 on-street spaces in favor of a bike lane. Davis suggested that one side of Hendricks be converted into an “undesignated shoulder” that could be used for bikes or parking.

• The number of registered Super Bowl volunteers continues to climb. The Host Committee says 6,000 have already signed on and they hope to add at least 2,000 more by May. Committee members will be at Gateway Mall this weekend to recruit volunteers. The last public volunteer recruiting rally is scheduled for April 17.

• Chris T. Harris has joined the law firm of Volpe, Bajalia, Wickes, Rogerson & Galloway as an associate. Harris will practice in the firm’s business and commercial litigation groups.

• Dr. Michael A. Haight is the new chief medical officer at Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital.

• NASA’s Starship 2040 exhibit is coming to town. The traveling exhibit, a mockup of a futuristic spaceliner, will be parked at the Museum of Science and History and available for free public tours Monday through Wednesday. “Starship 2040 is a glimpse into a very possible future,” said U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, who is helping bring the exhibit to town.
