The Salvation Army hosted an appreciation luncheon Tuesday at the Cummer Museum of Arts & Gardens to honor its volunteers in Northeast Florida.

In 2003, area residents contributed more than 57,000 volunteer hours to The Salvation Army.

“It doesn’t matter if a volunteer chooses to ring a bell, give out a box of groceries or read to a homeless child in our shelter,” said Major James Seiler, area commander for The Salvation Army. “Any gift of time, however small, makes a huge difference in the lives of those who can’t help themselves and those who just need some encouragement to get back on track.”

About 200 volunteers attended the luncheon.
