The mayor expected four-year-olds to be excited about his youth literacy program, but he’s been surprised by the enthusiasm it’s generated in Jacksonville’s corporate community.

Mayor John Peyton accepted a 2,000-book donation Tuesday morning from Mercedes Homes. Peyton’s literacy initiative seeks to collect and distribute more than a million books to Jacksonville children.

“It’s been one of the real successes of the campaign the way it’s been able to engage the entire community,” said Peyton. “Corporate citizens, not-for-profits, the City, every sector has done their part.”
