Junior Barracuda Clark Judd Jr. and mascot Chomper show off the championship trophy the Jacksonville Barracudas won last season. The Barracudas open their Southern Professional Hockey League season Friday at Winston-Salem. “The team is anxious to get out on the ice and play hockey,” said Coach Ron Duguay. “You can feel the excitement of the players and fans knowing their team is coming off of a championship year.”
The Barracudas are under new ownership this season. The team was purchased by a group of local investors, including Duguay, earlier this year. They will play 28 games in Veterans Memorial Arena this season. The home opener is scheduled for Nov. 26.
