• National Geographic Television & Film is in town producing a documentary on how the Zoo is dealing with Hurricane Frances. A film crew is at the Zoo shooting footage on how staffers protect the animals from the storm. After the storm passes, the National Geographic crew will cover the Zoo’s clean-up and recovery efforts.

• It’s probably not real high on the City’s priority list for hurricane preparations, but at least one change will have to made to the evacuation guide available on the City’s website. The printable pamphlet still has former mayor John Delaney’s picture on it.

• Outgoing State Senate president Jim King invited Mayor John Peyton to a local dinner with a pretty exclusive guest list. The dinner is intended to get no more than 20 local “doers and shakers” face-to-face access to incoming president, Tom Lee. The price of attendance? A $10,000 check made payable to “Senate Majority 2004.”

• The community celebration for the new St. Vincent’s Ronald McDonald Care Mobile that was scheduled for Monday has been postponed because of weather concerns. The event will be rescheduled for a later date.

• FreshMinistries and Dignity-U-Wear, have established a clothing replacement program for hurricane victims. Relief agencies, churches and other non-profit organizations can order sets of clothing by requesting an order form from FreshMinistries, filling it out and faxing it back, or phoning in the order by cell phone, if telephone lines are down. For details, call 355-3000.

• The Jacksonville Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association elected new officers during its monthly meeting Thursday. Dawn Emerick of First Coast Service Options will serve as president and Eric Cravey of Cravey Communications as president-elect.

• The Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art will present Preston Haskell’s private collection, starting Sept. 24. Haskell is ranked by Art and Antiques magazine as one of America’s top 100 collectors.
