As downtown Jacksonville felt the greatest effects from Hurricane Frances Sunday, the streets were vacant except for heavy rainfall and sporadic gusts of 40 mile-per-hour wind.

Damage on the Northbank looked limited to overturned trees, street signs and newspaper boxes. Across the Main Street Bridge, it was hard to tell where the River stopped and San Marco began. West of San Marco Blvd., the neighborhood was awash in nearly a foot of standing water.

Businesses were mostly shuttered on Sunday, with the China Joy restaurant in Riverside and Papa Johns being the only visible exceptions.
