Davidson Development, Inc. has announced that construction is underway on a new park at the King & Bear in The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village. Numerous landscape enhancements are also in the works within the community.

Heritage Oak Park will be a three-acre recreational area with picnic tables, benches, a half court basketball court, a half-sized soccer field that doubles as free play space for Frisbee and catch games, and an old-fashioned rope tree swing. Other amenities include a nostalgic playground with a wooden teeter-totter, merry-go-round, tetherball and a large swing set. The park includes eight ancient heritage live oaks with canopy spreads of up to 100 feet in diameter.

Surrounded by nature preserves - including 900 linear feet of conservation lands that run along its perimeter - the park will feature a mulch pathway that weaves through the shade of the oak trees, connecting to the various activity zones.

Other improvements include embellishments at the entrance of the King & Bear such as the installation of a flagpole and American flag along with a neighborhood announcement board and a “Welcome Home” sign.

Covered benches, complete with landscaping and sidewalks, will be installed at the entrances to the Bearsford and Kingsbury neighborhoods, along with a pair of trellis-topped bench swings on Registry Blvd. (the community’s main roadway) between those neighborhoods. Benches will also be installed near the entrance of Waterbury by the Links.

Trellis-topped bench swings and a tire swing will be located within the dense shade of a live oak hammock outside the entrance to the Oakwood neighborhood. Mile markers will also be painted on the neighborhood sidewalks and pathways to create a series of community jogging circuits. In addition, the community’s second gatehouse, located on the north end of the King & Bear, is now staffed and open 24 hours a day.

Additional improvements have been incorporated to expand the Swim and Tennis Center’s party and group activities. A circular seat wall will extend from the center’s terrace to create a storytelling and fire ring adjacent to conservation lands, along with a regulation-sized horseshoe pit next to the barbecue terrace.

“We’ve spent approximately $100,000 on these improvements in our mission to exceed our residents‚ expectations,” said Rick Pariani, vice president of design and development for Davidson Development, the World Golf Village’s developer. “This is just the first phase of our enhancement program. We’re also looking into the possibility of expanding the Swim & Tennis Center.”
