The department that regulates almost every licensee in the real estate and construction fields has a new leader.
Simone Marstiller, 41, was named by Gov. Jeb Bush last month to lead the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, a giant bureaucracy that handles the licensing of dozens of professions.
She replaces Diane Carr, who has joined a Tallahasasee law firm.
Marstiller once served as the governor’s deputy chief of staff and most recently headed the state’s Technology Office, a division that was eliminated by the legislature as of July 1.
Marstiller was previously general counsel for the Florida Department of Management Services, serving as interim secretary of the department from January 2003 until to April 2003. Prior to that, she served as assistant general counsel to Bush and was responsible for overseeing and coordinating major litigation and other legal matters involving the departments of Children and Families, Management Services and Elder Affairs.
Before working for Bush, she was chief appellate counsel for the Agency for Health Care Administration.
Marstiller earned her undergraduate degree from Stetson University in DeLand and her law degree from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg.
