• The National Clearing House for Science, Technology and the Law at Stetson and the National Institute for Justice is presenting a two-day national conference Sept. 12 through Sept. 14 to discuss emerging legal and scientific issues and trends in the use of scientific evidence in the courtroom. The conference is being held at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club in St. Petersburg and has been designed for law enforcement professionals, legal experts, forensic scientists, academics and expert witnesses.
• Stetson Law’s Elder Consumer Protection Program commissioned a recent national poll regarding the elderly and consumer scams. The poll found out that 10 percent of elderly Americans, almost 3.5 million, have been the victim of a variety of consumer scams. In Florida, the poll showed that home improvement scams are slightly more prevalent than in other parts of the country.
• The Tampa Bay Business Journal recently named Stetson Law’s dean and vice president Darby Dickerson “Business Woman of the Year” in the nonprofit/social services category.
