Councilwoman named to judicial commission

Jacksonville City Council member Glorious Johnson was recently appointed by U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez to serve on Florida’s federal district court Judicial Nominating Commission. Johnson will be representing the Middle District Conference for the commission, which was created by the Florida Congressional delegation to provide recommendations for potential nominees to the Florida Federal District Courts.

Ticket trouble

When the Clerk of Court’s office closed down traffic ticket-payment centers across town it stirred up some trouble for Tax Collector Mike Hogan. The centers were stationed in Tax Collector branches, and some dissatisfied ticket payers are still showing up. “It was the Clerk of Court’s decision, but I’ve been hearing the complaints,” said Hogan. The problem, said Hogan was that the tickets continued to carry payment instructions directing people to the Tax Collector even after the Clerk branches were closed. Hogan said the ticket instructions have now been changed.

Foley & Lardner makes top 100 list

Foley & Lardner was named to CIO magazine’s top 100 for the fourth time in five years. The technology magazine’s list honors the 100 companies worldwide that make the best use of technology to improve efficiency. CIO called this year’s group the “Bold 100” for their embrace of significant risk to achieve improvements in their product or services.
