The local Fraternal Order of Police is gearing up for its annual “Shop with an FOP Cop” event.
Each year 100 needy kids get to spend a morning shopping with an FOP police officer thanks to contributions from several local nonprofit organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, 100 Black Men, the Jacksonville Housing Authority, the Police Athletic League and the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Board.
“This is just one more way our local heroes and police officers give back to the community,” said Nelson Cuba, president of the Jacksonville FOP.
This year the officers are taking the kids to Regency Mall where each child will be able to spend a personal $75 gift certificate good for most stores in the mall.
