This picture was taken in 1946 and believe it or not, it’s the Gator Bowl (actually Municipal Stadium in ‘46) and a far cry from today’s Alltel Stadium. The differences? About 50,000 seats, no sky boxes or Jumbotron and the stadium ran east-west those days instead of today’s north-south layout. It was built in 1925 by the O. P. Woodcock Company, now known as Koger Properties. The inaugural Gator Bowl saw Wake Forest beat South Carolina 26-14 in front of 7,362 people.
