Take a drive up East Bay Street and you’re bound to notice some marked changes along much of the Shipyards waterfront property. Set aside as part of the Super Fest entertainment zone, which will include a transportation hub, the large site has been paved.
“It’s fantastic,” said Theresa O’Donnell, director of Special Events for the City. “I remember driving by the other day and seeing what they’ve been able to do so far and thinking, ‘Wow, it’s really coming together.’”
O’Donnell and Al Kinard, Logistic and Operations Chair for the Super Bowl Host Committee, said that progress takes the seven acre site one step closer to becoming the stage for live entertainment, interactive activities and the Motorola Transportation Station next month.
“It’s looking good,” said Kinard. “We started about two weeks ago and we’re just about finished with the paving. And after we address some minor drainage and cleaning issues, we’re completely done.”
Fencing and tent set up will come next, he said.
“It’s coming together quickly
now,” he said, “and it’s going to look great.”
