Despite a more than two-hour ceremony, levels of excitement ran at a constant high Thursday evening as Kevin Hyde and Michael Corrigan were sworn in as the City Council’s president and vice president, respectively. The pair thanked family, friends and colleagues during their speeches, while suggesting that the year ahead offered more opportunity than obstacles.
“Public service is true privilege,” said Hyde. “I welcome the change to make Jacksonville a better place.”
Hyde added that despite having a relatively brief presidential term ahead of him, he hoped to make a long term positive impact.
“It won’t be easy, “ he said, “but we’re going to be able to use this time determine what’s really important to our city. We’re going to fulfill a commitment to live within our needs.”
