John Peyton likens the look of his fourth floor office at City Hall to the way he approaches his political career: corporate and streamlined.

“I hate to compare it to the way it was before I got here,” he said. “But, in a nutshell, I guess that’s a pretty good way to describe it. It has that business feel that I’ve grown accustomed to.”

Jacksonville’s mayor for just under two years, Peyton admitted that being a politician quite frankly garners one a lot of free stuff. But of the dozens and dozens of souvenirs, photographs and plaques, only a handful go on display.

“Honestly, it would be impossible for everything to hit the shelf,” Peyton said. “Most of what you see here represents people and places that have, for one reason or another, made an impression on me. It’s hard to explain.”

The office looks out over Hemming Plaza — if you look at the front of City Hall, Peyton has the middle suite on the top floor.

He takes you on a tour of his City Hall office with Daily Record staff writer J. Brooks Terry.
