FSU Law grad James Bacchus was recently honored at this year’s Homecoming Awards Banquet. After graduating from the law school in 1978, Bacchus went on to become a high power in the area of world trade. He is currently the chairman of the Global Trade Practice Group of international law firm Greenberg Traurig.
University Of Florida Levin College of Law
U.S. Rep. Michael Bilirakis will be the featured speaker at the Levin College of Law’s Fall 2005 commencement on Dec. 16. Bilirakis is a UF law alum and has served in Congress for 22 years.
Florida didn’t just beat Georgia in football this year, the UF Moot Court Team also beat the Georgia Moot Court Team. Law schools students Christine Fuqua and Jarrett Deluca were on the Gators’ winning team. Two other law students — Chris Carmody and Anne Zerbe — represented Florida at the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition in Chicago Oct. 21-22 and finished third out of 12 teams.
University of Georgia School of Law
Alum Pat Sullivan was sworn in as the new federal judge magistrate of East Oregon last week. After graduation, Sullivan spent some time working at Georgia Legal Services and, later, clerked for a judge in the Georgia Court of Appeals. She moved to Pendleton, Ore. in 1983 and has worked at the Corey, Byler, Rew, Lorenzen and Hojem law firm ever since until now.
Florida Coastal School of Law
FCSL recently welcomed Margaret Dees as director of institutional advancement. For several years, Dees was the alumni director at Jacksonville University. At Florida Coastal, Dees will be responsible for fund raising, alumni relations, and school advancement. Her position will include designing fund raising initiatives as well as creating annual giving, scholarship giving and major gift giving programs. Dees is a graduate of Jacksonville University with a bachelor’s in music, where she majored in the viola and violin, and she received her law degree from the University of Florida.
