The 21st annual Empty Bowls Luncheon to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Florida was Tuesday at the Osborn Center.

With the purchase of a $25 ticket, attendees were able to choose and keep one of 2,500 one-of-a kind bowls created for the event by students from 44 area schools. Any remaining bowls also were for sale. Bowls autographed by Billy Idol, Brad Paisley, Sen. Bill Nelson and Jaguars football players were auctioned off as well.

Local notables served soup and bread to more than 1,000 people.

“We do this every year — it’s the best event to do,” said Steve Sutton of FM-95.1. “We are already looking forward to next year’s event.”

Last year the luncheon raised $25,000 and attracted so many attendees that the food bank moved the event back to the Osborn Center from the Radisson.
