What do you get when you combine the efforts of 30 area restaurants, a casino and both a silent and live auction? Cookin’ for Katrina, a fundraiser held in support of those affected by the August hurricane. As part of the event, which took place at the Sawgrass Marriott Tuesday evening, chefs from area restaurants including River City Brewing Company, Roy’s and Pom’s Thai prepared their signature dishes. Event organizers estimate that more than 450 people paid the $75 cost of admission and that an additional $30,000 was raised by the auctions.

“We’re very pleased with the way everything turned out,” event spokesperson Heather Surface said. “It’s wonderful to see the community turn out in support of a worthy cause.”
