• Florida State football fans expect to see their team in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game here on Dec. 3 — the Seminoles are unbeaten with an easy schedule ahead. If you’re buying tickets, FSU figures to be the home team, too, as their division won the coin toss.

• The Community Foundation is celebrating its Ruby (40th) anniversary with a big party and annual meeting Oct. 27 at the T-U Center.

• Westside resident Chris Daunhauer sent Mayor John Peyton an interesting letter. At the top in huge type it says, “I am not a pine tree.” The letter was in reference to the mayor’s office’s original assertion that not much other than a bunch of pine trees would be affected if Cecil Field was returned to the Navy for use as a Master Jet Base.

• Speaking of Cecil Field, you may have heard a lot lately about the Cecil Field fact book. It can be downloaded by going to the City of Jacksonville’s Web site at coj.net.

• The mayor’s office still hasn’t heard back from First Lady Laura Bush about being the guest of honor at the Nov. 12 grand opening of the new Main Library. Others asked to attend include celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Julie Andrews. No response from them, either.

• Apologies to On Ideas partner Frank Costantini. We misspelled his name in a story Tuesday.

• Take note on your next visit to Henrietta’s in Springfield. No to-go cups will be given out unless you call in a takeout order.

• A special fashion show to benefit non-profit group The Sanctuary on 8th Street went off without a hitch last week. The fund-raiser, which featured the styles of local designer Linda Cunningham, raised more than $1,600 for the nonprofit and its youth-directed programs.

• Work continues to convert the block of Laura Street between Duval and Monroe Streets into a two-way street. Traffic signals have already been installed.

• A reception will celebrate a new art collection at Independent Square next Tuesday. The Jacksonville Heart Gallery depicts the emotional experiences of Jacksonville children hoping to be permanently placed in new homes.

• The third quarterly Cornerstone Luncheon of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce will be Nov. 21 at the Hyatt Regency. Wachovia CEO and President Ken Thompson will be the featured speaker.

• Locally headquartered Lexicon Relocation has promoted John Reed to vice president of expense administration. Reed, who has been with the corporate relocation service since 2002, formerly served as director of expense.
