Mayor John Peyton, City Council President Kevin Hyde and a host of representatives from the non-profit community gathered at City Hall Monday to accept an award on behalf of the U.S. Department of Treasury. The John Sherman Award for Excellence in Financial Literacy was presented to the Jacksonville Individual Development Account for its commitment to “helping Duval County Families achieve greater financial stability.” The IDA program is a combined effort of FreshMinistries, United Way of Northeast Jacksonville, the Jessie Ball duPont Foundation, Clara White Mission and several others. The initiative matches up to $2 for every dollar saved by those enrolled, making them eligible for a $6,000 nest egg. More than 60 Jacksonville residents are currently participating.
