Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland was all over the city visiting some of the 43 Jacksonville public and private high school and universities participating in the fourth annual voting drive. He greeted Democrat and Republican groups at the Florida Coastal School of Law to thank them for their efforts and offer support. Holland said it is important to get young people involved in the community as soon as they are able to register, and keep them in contact with other voting generations. “They can be part of the community for the rest of their life. It’s important to form that habit of voting and participating,” said Holland.
FCSL’s Democrats and Republicans set up a table to register students. “People don’t take the time to vote and it’s something people have died for,” said Kris Parker, president of the school’s Democrats. “We have troops fighting all over the world. For the public that is disgruntled with the government — here’s a chance to do something about it. It all starts with registering to vote.”
