Nocatee developer Jed Davis was the guest speaker at Friday’s Sales and Marketing Council monthly breakfast at the University of North Florida’s University Center. More than 440 reservations had been made for the breakfast, and there were few cancellations.
Davis spoke about the layout of the master planned community and presented a slideshow highlighting developments to be built throughout the 14,000-acre site that straddles Duval and St. Johns counties.
“People always try and compare it to something already in Jacksonville,” he said. “You can’t. It’s larger than Orange Park, Bermuda and Vatican City.”
While Nocatee will take 25 years to be fully built-out, construction on major highways through the development is already underway and residential housing is slated to break ground later this year.
A feature of Nocatee homes is a safe room in each house. A safe room is a free standing room constructed to withstand Category 3 hurricanes. Davis quipped that Miami safe rooms are usually used as martini bars. “In Jacksonville, they’ll be gun rooms,” he said.
