County Court Judge Gary Flower spent last Thursday afternoon taking a group of Mandarin Middle 8th graders through the ABCs of the law. Flower addressed the group in the final event of Law Week 2006, which began April 3 with the annual Law Day luncheon featuring former U.S. Sen. and vice presidential nominee John Edwards.

Mandarin Middle teacher Jennie Keeling said the kids found the talk interesting, but seemed focused on things other legal issues.

“The kids were obsessed with the concept of the anklet,” said Keeling, of the device that some criminals are forced to wear as a form of house arrest. “He also talked about probable cause and took questions, which is very brave coming from 8th graders. He also talked about the choices people make in life. Everyone seemed very interested in what he had to say.”
