Former Circuit Court Judge Bill Maness turned 90 Saturday, and Charlie Towers and about 40 of Maness’ longtime friends gathered in the Rogers Towers conference room to honor him on the milestone. Maness (second from left), Maurice Goldstein, Charlie Towers and William Goldstein together represent 239 years of legal experience. Florida Bar President Hank Coxe (with Maness) stopped by to say hello and enjoy the barbecue lunch. Maness joined The Florida Bar in 1948 and was appointed to the bench Nov. 1, 1957, where he served until April 1963. “I was going broke,” said Maness, who has been in private practice since and still works today. “I’m addicted.” To put things into perspective, consider that when Maness was born in 1916, the Professional Golf Association of America was formed, World War I started with a battle in France and there were 3,000 members of The Florida Bar — today there are 80,000.
