Construction is well under way at FCSL’s new Southside campus at 8787 Baypine Road. The new facility’s design is based in part on concepts from IDEO, a California consulting firm. IDEO assessed the differences between FCSL and other law schools then suggested a design to cater to those differences. Jacksonville-based Rink Design is architect for the 220,000 square foot building. Skanska Building USA, has been selected as construction manager.
University of Georgia School of Law
The University of Georgia School of Law will be breaking new ground this spring by bringing alumni to Athens for a new educational program targeted to law students. What differentiates the Alumni Advocacy Series from other educational programs utilizing alumni is this initiative will include a series of presentations from six accomplished alumni lawyers, all focusing on key elements for successful advocacy in the courtroom. The inaugural session, titled “How to Argue and Win an Appeal,” is today. The second session in the Alumni Advocacy Series, to be held in March, will focus on dramatic exhibits in civil cases. The final session in April will concentrate on experts to be used in criminal and civil cases.

Members from across Florida and human rights defenders from around the world will gather for the 2006 Amnesty International Florida State Conference Feb. 25 at the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. During the conference, nationally and internationally renowned speakers, panelists, activist members and staff of AIUSA will explore concrete strategies for confronting national and international human rights violations. Workshop topics include the war on terror, detention centers, the death penalty, violence against women, torture and prisoners of conscience.
Stetson University College of Law
Stetson University College of Law will warn elderly citizens about the dangers of scams and fraud at free consumer protection presentations throughout Florida in February and March. Stetson Law Professor Nick Cox will speak about identity theft at four different locations in Central Florida starting Tuesday. With experience in both the Office of the Florida Attorney General and the State Attorney’s Office, Cox has worked closely with state and federal agencies to educate citizens and law enforcement personnel on consumer fraud issues.The seminars are part of Stetson’s elder consumer protection initiatives.
