• This might be nice early in baseball season when it’s still cool. The Suns have installed a hot tub just beyond the left-center field wall. For $300, you and nine others can take in a game, eat, drink (soft drinks only) and soak in the hot tub.
• The Blue Angels will be in town for the Oct. 28-29 air show. The mayor’s top military adviser, Dan McCarthy, noticed that’s the same weekend as the Florida/Georgia game and pondered in an e-mail if a flyover might be possible.
• Since the murder rate and unemployment rate are usually joined together, City Council member Daniel Davis wondered Monday why Jacksonville has witnessed 15 murders already despite an unemployment rate around 3 percent.
• Susan Hamilton, Gwendolyn Leaphart, Dr. Sherry Magill, Marcia Morales and Karen Wolfson are five local women who have made “outstanding contributions” to the Jacksonville community and have been selected for recognition at the 20th Women’s History Month Breakfast March 8 beginning at 7:30 a.m., at the University of North Florida University Center. The breakfast is sponsored by the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women and costs $20 per person. The event will also honor Young Women of Vision, whose names will be announced at the event. • If one preseason publication is right, there will be joy in Chicago come late October. Lindy’s Major League Baseball preview is on the racks and the magazine is picking the Chicago Cubs to beat the New York Yankees in the World Series. The Cubs haven’t won the Series since 1908, the longest current championship drought in major league sports.
• Jacksonville Fire and Rescue is out to catch “juvenile firesetters” through its recently-created Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program. The initiative is part of the United States Fire Administration’s goal of reducing the number of fires set annually by kids under age 18, either intentionally or accidentally. According to the USFA, more than 4,000 Americans die annually in fires and 300 of those are started by those under 18.
• Correction: In Wednesday’s paper Mark Boensel was misidentified. His correct title is Rear Adm. Mark Boensel, commander, Navy Region Southeast.
• City offices will be closed Feb. 20 in observance of President’s Day. This includes City Hall, the Annex, the County Courthouse and the Yates Building. Other closings include all public libraries, the Tax Collector’s office and all branches as well as the Property Appraiser’s office.
