Jeanne Moellendick has been a Realtor with Re/Max Specialists in Orange Park for four and a half years.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN REAL ESTATE?

“I had wanted to get into real estate for a long time and I really loved it. I like people. A lot of people think real estate is about houses, but it’s about people.” Her mother, Mary Margaret Pyle, also is an agent at Re/Max Specialists. Moellendick decided to make a career change and join Re/Max so her mother could train her. “I had a very special opportunity. My mother works here and she trained me. She is the most senior person in the office and has been in real estate for 32 years.”

WHAT DID SHE DO BEFORE REAL ESTATE?

She headed sales and marketing for educational technology companies for 15 years. Before that, she was a teacher and a media specialist for 20 years and served as the coordinator for technology services for the West Virginia State Department for four years.

AREA SHE COVERS?

Duval, St. Johns and Clay counties.

HOW HAS YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE HELPED YOU IN REAL ESTATE?

“Education is important to most buyers. I think having a background in education really helps because I understand the importance of finding a home and schools in the areas that they want to find. The background in sales and marketing was tremendous because there is a lot of sales and marketing required to sell real estate. Ninety-nine percent of what we do to get homes sold is sales and marketing. Also, being able to watch my mother in real estate, see what she did and then being able to put all those skills to work. So much of what we do is technology-based, so that has been a big help. I’m very comfortable with the technology and helping people get information via technology.”

COLLEGE?

She has a bachelor’s degree in education from Marshall University and a master’s degree in speech communications from West Virginia University.

MOVED TO JACKSONVILLE?

Four and a half years ago to work with her mother.

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED?

“Do it right and follow the contract.”

MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB?

“Working with people who don’t get the job done. I want the job done right and there are a lot of people who take a lackadaisical attitude and things don’t get done in a timely manner.”

LESSONS LEARNED?

“Never assume that somebody else is doing what you think they are doing. Never assume that a buyer knows exactly what they want. It is a learning

process for them, too, and they need to go see a few houses before they know what it is they really want.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS?

She is a member of the Southwest Council, Accredited Buyers Representative, Real Estate Cyberspace Society and the Bryan Buffini Coaching Program.

HOMETOWN?

Parkersburg, W.Va.

RESIDES?

Eagle Harbor.

PERSONAL SIDE?

She has been married to Milt for 35 years. They have two children, Marta, 32 and Mitch, 31. When she is not working, she enjoys reading, cross-stitching and sitting by the pool. Her favorite movie of all time is “Gone with the Wind.” A few books she recommends are “Power of Positive Thinking,” by Norman Vincent Peale, “Smart Talk” by Lou Tice and “Your Best Life Now,” by Joel Osteen. When relaxing at home, she enjoys tuning into “The West Wing.” When traveling, she likes Thailand and Sedona, Ariz. When dining out, she likes Carrabbas Italian Grill or Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.
