Amy LaFrance was bursting with aromas underneath her tent at the Farmer’s Market in Hemming Plaza Friday. It was the first time she brought her 3 year-old business, LaFrance Candles, to the Plaza. LaFrance makes candles and soaps, mostly from soy, at her home in San Pablo and usually sells them online, at craft shows or at the beach. She creates her own candle scents such as tropical papaya, lemon bundt cake, ginger plum and cinnamon bun candles packaged on a tray. LaFrance said she will probably come back to the Farmer’s Market, but it gets difficult maintaining the candles in the heat.
“It’s not a good time for soy wax,” she said. “It’s an expensive hobby.”
