Hundreds of poor people descended on Hemming Plaza Thursday for the first annual “Our Family Block Party.” Clara White Mission, City Rescue Mission, I.M. Sulzbacher Center, Salvation Army and Trinity Rescue Mission organized the event to showcase their services along with 28 other nonprofits. Free hot dogs and hamburgers were available for people who visited four booths or more. Ju’Coby Pittman-Peele, president of the Clara White Mission, said the nonprofits hoped to educate people working Downtown and provide a “safety net” for those in need.
