• The Jaguars’ preseason schedule is complete. The home games will be Aug. 19 against Carolina at 7:30 and Aug. 26 against Tampa Bay at 8.
• If the many commercials made watching the television coverage of the U.S. Open golf tournament a bit disconcerting, you’ll love what will happen at next year’s Players Championship. Only four minutes of ads per hour.
• Speaking of the U.S. Open, you might have noticed that Times-Union golf writer Gary Smits didn’t write anything from Sunday’s final round and that all the stories were from the AP or other sources. Pretty good reason. Smits was battling food poisoning.

The City’s announcement of plans for a Fidelity expansion was preceded by a group releasing a survey on the prospects of a Navy return to Cecil Field and calling for a voter referendum on the subject. That prompted a third press conference, hastily convened by Peyton, to answer the Cecil Field group. Peyton essentially said the Cecil case is closed and it’s time to focus on Cecil’s success as an aerospace industrial park.
• Speaking of Cecil Field, State Rep. Jennifer Carroll offered Peyton in a letter a suggestion to put the issue to bed. She suggested that Peyton send a letter, signed by the City Council members and by Navy representatives, spelling out Jacksonville’s opposition to a Navy return. But she neglected to mention where Peyton should send the letter.
