There’s more than one independence day now that Mayor John Peyton signed a proclamation designating July as the Independent Living Month. The proclamation was one of several Peyton signed during the monthly event in his office.
The Independent Living Foundation Inc. is a national charity that offers equipment solutions for the disabled. July was proclaimed the month to raise awareness of disabled youth through Independent Living. State Sen. Stephen Wise also represented the Foundation as Peyton signed the proclamation Tuesday. Among the Foundation’s additional supporters was Tiffany Hart, a 21 year-old miracle woman who has survived 48 surgeries, four of which were brain surgeries.
