When John Peyton was campaigning for mayor, former Mayor Jake Godbold told him to take care of two groups in Jacksonville in particular: seniors and firefighters.
The Mayor’s Older Buddies program, established under Godbold, was re-established by Peyton for Jacksonville’s seniors and held its quarterly meeting Tuesday at Metropolitan Park.
My Medicare Matters, a grassroots national education program to help people with Medicare and their families understand the new Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage, offered its services to MOB.
The My Medicare Matters team, the Area Agency on Aging, the National Council of Aging, AARP and other area organizations informed attendees about their choices and plan options.
Seniors also had the opportunity to enroll in plans on-site.
“It is of utmost importance that Jacksonville seniors get the information they need on the new Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage,” said Peyton, whose address to the more than 600 seniors was based on nutrition and good living.
“Jacksonville is the perfect setting to enjoy a good lifestyle,” he said. “It’s also cheaper if you take care of yourself.”
