November’s third-anniversary Art Walk didn’t draw landmark attendance. For those who did attend, however, activities ranged from the event’s typical wine-tasting and gallery-touring to medieval jousting and body painting.
Shopowners said the fact it gets dark earlier and the opening of the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair might have contributed to the less-than-stellar turnout. Also, some small events, such as salsa dance lessons at the Main Library, were canceled or delayed by instructor illness.
The monthly Art Walk is sponsored by Downtown Vision, Inc. and has grown dramatically over the past three years. What started as a small art-viewing, wine-tasting event attended by only a handful has grown to one of Downtown’s biggest monthly attractions with hundreds of patrons and stops that seem to grow in number each month.
Organizers from DVI expect that as the Downtown residential population grows, so too, will the popularity and attendance at Art Walk. The monthly event covers a large area of Downtown from Mark’s on Bay Street to the Landing and Hemming Plaza.
