One member of the Republican Women’s Club of Duval Federated received a special treat Thursday when her son escorted her to the group’s monthly meeting.
Marilyn Peyton, longtime member of the club and mother of Mayor John Peyton, was accompanied by the mayor to the club’s post-election wrap up where members jokingly scolded her for her lack of attendance.
Her new grandson, Conner, was to blame for her recent absences, according to Peyton. While at the luncheon, Peyton spoke briefly to club members and thanked them for voting in Tuesday’s mid-term elections as well as volunteering as poll watchers.
“This week, we saw the work of dedicated, capable, smart people,” said Peyton. “Thanks for your participation.”
Peyton additionally thanked some of the veteran City employees who were also members of the club that have contributed to the Republican Party’s success in Duval County this year.
