Last Monday was Mayor John Peyton’s monthly proclamation day. Among the several, Peyton (right, reading proclamation) recognized three local elementary students (Diamond Smith, Michelle Gillyard and Skye Kim) for the essays they wrote in conjunction with Florida Coastal School of Law’s Law Students Against Violence “Stop the Violence” campaign. “There is not a more relevant topic in Jacksonville,” said Peyton, who then had the kids read their essays — “How I would end violence in Jacksonville” — aloud.
