City Council member Lad Daniels (left) presented Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce President Wally Lee (second from left) with the inaugural Children’s International Summer Villages Peace Builder Award Thursday, as the organization celebrates its 30th anniversary. Lee’s wife Alyson (second from right) and CISV President Valerie Chritton (far right) were also on hand. The award recognizes Lee as an individual who has encouraged the community to join together to build on the strength of its diversity — from race to religion and ethnic origins to neighborhoods. CISV is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer organization which promotes peace education and cross-culture friendships among youth. The organization has 22 chapters in the United States and the Jacksonville chapter is the only one in Florida. Jacksonville has hosted more than 900 international delegates since its founding in 1976, and has sent more than 300 local students to CISV programs around the world the past 10 years.
