• The Jacksonville Association of Firefighters is hosting a lunch for community leaders to kick off its annual “Fill the Boot” fundraising event to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The luncheon is at 11 a.m. Oct. 23 at Jacksonville Fire Rescue Station No.10 on McDuff Avenue.

• The ARC Jacksonville is hosting its 15th annual “Dinner With Bill” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Hyatt. The event celebrates people with disabilities and the companies that employ them. Dinner with Bill was named after Bill Sackter, a disabled man who worked his way through life and became a national celebrity when an Emmy-winning TV movie about his life titled “Door to Door” was released.

• Correction. Where Ya Bean? coffee shop in Jacksonville Beach has been open for more than a week.

• Renovations to the four-and-a-half floors of the Riverplace Tower occupied by Rogers Towers are complete. The law firm is equipped with wireless connectivity, audio-visual improvements, new offices were added, and existing offices and conference rooms were updated. In addition to the renovations, the offices are decorated with art by local artists.

• Congratulations to Rogers Towers’ Elizabeth Howard who was elected to the Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors. Howard will serve a two-year term.

• The Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art is hosting the 2006 Gala “Water In Motion” at 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the museum. Cocktails start at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. and dessert and dancing in the Aqua Lounge. Proceeds to benefit JMOMA’s educational programs and endowment.

• Celebrate United Way’s move to Riverplace Tower from 6-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 in suite 400. Guests will be able to tour their new offices.

• Bank of America will be announcing the recipients of the Neighborhood Builders, Local Heros, and Student Leader programs at The Neighborhood Excellence Initiative Awards Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the River Club.

• The daniel Memorial Board of Trustees is holding their 123rd annual meeting beginning at 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at their Belfort Road location. After the meeting guests can join daniel’s kids for tea and dessert.

• Florida Coastal School of Law’s Center for Law & Public Policy, The Environmental Law Community Action Team and Jacksonville University is hosting an Environmental Summit Nov. 3. The summit begins at 8 a.m. at Jacksonville University. This year’s keynote speaker is Brian O’Neill, partner at Faegre & Benson LLP, Minneapolis and lead counsel in the Exxon-Valdez Alaska oil spill litigation. • A new art gallery opened in San Marco last week called Open Gallery. The gallery is located at 1838 Dewey Place, off of Atlantic Boulevard.

• The first of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens lecture series for the upcoming exhibit “Temples and Tombs: Treasures of Egyptian Art from the British Museum” is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Haskell Company. There is a series of six lectures. Tickets are $5 for individual lectures of $25 for the full series. For more information call 356-6857.

• The City of Jacksonville’s Emergency Preparedness Division will host a mock hazards disaster drill at three designated sites in Jacksonville Wednesday beginning at 8 a.m. More than 500 volunteers and emergency responders from federal, state, regional and local organizations will participate. The multi-agency exercise will assess current response capabilities for addressing an all-hazards disaster or terrorist attack.
