The City of Jacksonville team is faring pretty well in the YMCA’s inaugural First Coast Games. Ten teams representing corporations all over town are competing in the month-long games. As of today, the City’s team is in second place, 14 points behind Baptist Health. Policy Director Kevin Holzendorf (left) and Julio Lacayo Jr. of the City’s Community Services Division hold the City’s three first-place trophies won in softball, basketball and tennis (Lacayo captained the team). The City’s undefeated volleyball team is in this weekend’s finals and Holzendorf says there’s time to catch Baptist Health. “Oh yeah. We’re in this to win it,” said Holzendorf, who isn’t participating, but is coordinating the 90-plus City employees involved in the games. Teams get points for winning events and there are bonus points in eight of the 10 events. For example, bonus points are awarded for dressing up for dodgeball, bringing a run-through banner to flag football and bringing new balls to the tennis competition.
