Officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office carried the Special Olympics Torch from the Police Memorial Building on Bay Street to the Landing. Runners, walkers and members of the recently formed Sheriff’s Office Bike Club also participated. The annual event raises funds for the Special Olympics World Summer and Winter games and JSO and participating agencies have collected more than $7,500 in sponsorships from the Pop Warner Football Conference, Greater Jacksonville Athletic Association, the Police Athletic League and T-shirt and ball cap sales. After the run, the torch was passed to law enforcement officials from Clay County.
