• The Florida Theatre has changed the hours for its box office which is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both people who work in the box office live in Arlington and wanted a half-hour head start on the traffic backups created by the detour on the Mathews Bridge.

• The University of North Florida String Ensemble will present a free concert Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Hicks Auditorium at the Main Library. Selections will include Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” plus works by Hovhaness, Diamond and Dvorak. A reception for the artists, funded in part by the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library, Inc., will follow the concert. The performance is part of the Main Library’s “Intermezzo: Free Sunday Concert Series.” Free parking for concertgoers and other library customers is available Sundays in the garage at the corner of Main and Duval streets with ticket validation at the Popular Services Desk on the library’s main floor.

• The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has filed a lawsuit against Jacksonville’s Alliance Capital Mortgage Company alleging violations of the state’s “Do Not Call” law. The action alleges the company made at least 21 calls to Florida residents on the state’s “Do Not Call” list in late 2005 and 2006 and further that the company used a pre-recorded message in some of the calls, which is a separate violation of state law. The legal action seeks an injunction prohibiting Alliance Capital from making any future calls to residents on the list and fines of up to $10,000 for each of the calls made to prohibited phone numbers.

• The Jacksonville Waterways Commission Subcommittee will meet Thursday at 3 p.m. in Conference Room A at City Hall to discuss the South Shore Marina development in front of the Aetna Building on the Southbank.

• A new city ordinance would create the Camperships Trust Fund account. The Children’s Commission Trust Fund will administer the account. According to the legislation, donations, monetary contributions, gifts and grants will be deposited into the fund for use toward summer camperships. Last year, a similar campaign generated over $106,000.

• According to the Gator Bowl Association, the four big college football games set for Jacksonville this year are expected to have an over $100 million economic impact and attract over 150,000 fans from out of town. Those games include the Florida State-Alabama game, the Florida-Georgia game, the ACC title game and the Gator Bowl.

• The Florida Community College Foundation will officially open its offices during a May 1 reception at the school’s Martin Center for College Services.
