More than 300 real estate professionals, builders, bankers, mortgage professionals and other volunteers teamed up recently to make a difference in homes belonging to the elderly and disabled that were in desperate need of repair. Approximately 20 homes were given some tender loving care during a Builder’s Care workday. Builders Care is non-profit arm of the Northeast Florida Builders Association that repairs damaged homes for the elderly, handicapped and less fortunate that couldn’t otherwise afford the repairs. A volunteer crew from Palencia (above) — the Hines community between St. Augustine and Jacksonville —was assigned to a home on the north side of Jacksonville. The homeowner, a woman in her late 70s, was living in unbearable conditions.

“When the Palencia team found out that our ‘granny’ had nothing, not even a pot or a dish — let alone a bed — we knew we had to do something,” said Naomi Lumley, director of sales and marketing for Hines at Palencia.
