• According to Florida Trend magazine, Community Foundation in Jacksonville is the fifth-biggest community foundation in the state with $132.5 million in assets of as 2006. The top foundation in the state is Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice with $251.5 million in assets.
• The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission’s Sports & Entertainment Office, Visit Jacksonville, the Tourist Development Council, the Jacksonville Axemen and the University of North Florida worked together to bring the Australian Day Challenge rugby league game to Jacksonville on Jan. 26. The game will officially be a part of the G’Day USA Initiative, one of the largest foreign country promotions held in the U.S. showcasing Australian trade and investment, food and wine, film, arts, fashion, lifestyle, culture and tourism.
• Each year the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens offers holiday gift memberships — a one-year membership to the museum. Some of the perks include free admission to the museum and gardens, invitations to members’ only openings, free or reduced admission to special events and a 10 percent discount in the museum store. Prices begin at $52 for an individual membership and $87 for a family membership. The gift can be purchased at the Cummer Store or by calling the membership department at 899-6010.
• Banana Republic and Goodwill Industries are giving customers a chance to “share the warmth” while shopping this holiday season. Through Wednesday, gently-worn sweaters can be traded in at the Banana Republic stores at the Avenues Mall and St. Johns Town Center for a 30 percent discount on a regular-priced sweater (excluding 100 percent cashmere). Donated sweaters will be sold in Goodwill’s retail stores and the proceeds will fund job training programs that benefit hundreds of thousands of people each year.
