Ashley Wakeland, 21, uses the brick of a Downtown sidewalk as the background for a graphic design project she’s completing during her studies at the Art Institute of Jacksonville. Wakeland employed 1-inch mirror squares to spell out the word “reflect” — which she said is an overriding theme to her self-reflective art and design work. “I only bought enough mirrors to do two-and-a-half letters at a time,” said Wakeland, who plans to stitch the photos together in Photoshop to spell out the whole word. “It’s my starving artist way of doing it.” Wakeland is a member of the first class at the Art Institute and is set to graduate in the winter of 2010.
