The Jacksonville Economic Development Commission’s Pedestrian Experience, Open Space & the River Task Force, along with urban designers and consultants from Glatting Jackson Kerchner Anglin, went on an extensive tour of Downtown on both sides of the river Thursday. On Friday, the consultants met with task force members to share observations and develop a time-line for creating their design for the future of Downtown. Dan Burden, of Glatting Jackson, led the tour after spending a full day exploring Downtown’s pedestrian environment. He spent 16 years as the Florida Department of Transportation’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator and has helped develop new pedestrian environments for cities from Honolulu to South Miami Beach. Burden said it was the first time he had visited Jacksonville in more than 15 years and “it’s really exciting to see what is beginning to happen here.”
